OP Stack and Optimism's Superchain Ambition

What is OP Stack?

The OP Stack (OPtimism Stack) is a modular, open-source blueprint for building highly scalable, highly interoperable blockchains. Developed by the Optimism Collective, the OP Stack is designed to make it easier than ever for developers to build their own blockchains, freeing them up to focus on what matters most: Innovation.

OP Stack-based blockchains (L2s and L3s) are called op-chains. Many op-chains will form a Superchain ecosystem. With a shared message-passing format, these chains can easily communicate with each other without custom adapters for each and every chain.

Superchain Ecosystem

The Superchain is a network of L2 and L3 chains, known as op-chains, which share security, a communication layer, and an open-source technology stack.

Optimism's Superchain ecosystem gained attention after the Bedrock update on June 6, 2023. The focus of this update is to reduce the amount of code in the OP Stack, helping to lower maintenance costs and the risk of errors. To achieve this, OP Labs reused as much code from Ethereum as possible, thereby enhancing security and compatibility with the Ethereum Blockchain.

Pioneering Projects in Optimism's Superchain Ecosystem

Base

On February 23, Coinbase announced that they would launch the testnet of Base, a Layer 2 network built on OP Stack, aiming to provide financial service for a billion users in the future. On July 13, Base's layer-2 mainnet launched, allowing builders to deploy contracts, while users will be welcomed to the network in August.

Magi

On April 19, a16z officially announced its new solution called Magi. Magi is a rollup client on Optimism. The Rollup client is an execution layer that allows processing and synchronization of transactions on Rollup chains. Currently Magi is still in the testet stage and needs more donations to be able to launch the official product.

Manta Pacific

On July 11, P0x labs launched Manta Pacific, an OP Stack layer-2 solution for the Ethereum ecosystem that uses Celestia for data availability. On July 19, the company announced a $25 million Series A funding round led by Polychain Capital, one of the top tier VC in crypto space.

Celo

On July 16, CLabs proposed to transition Celo from an independent layer-1 blockchain to an Ethereum layer-2 solution using OP Stack architecture, operated by Ethereum node operators, and secured by restaked ETH.

Public Goods Network (PGN)

On July 25, Gitcoin also launched the mainnet of its Layer 2 Public Goods Network (PGN) solution. The PGN is a L2 platform that was developed based on OP Stack, specially designed to support public goods.

The Future Of Superchain

OP Stack and Superchain are poised to be a trend in the near future, with big names joining the ecosystem one after another. However, it is important to remember that OP Stack and Superchain were only focused after the Bedrock upgrade on June 6, 2023. As such, the future of Superchain is still uncertain.

Market Overview The BTC weekly candle has bounced back and closed above $68,000. => There is still a feasible basis to test $70,000 - $73,000 in the short term (1-2 weeks). However, as BTC.D (Bitcoin Dominance) trends towards the 58-60% range, and ETH/BTC is at 0.047xx => The current situation is unfavorable for altcoins. The liquidity of altcoins depends on MMs (Market Makers). If MM has not yet deposited stablecoins on exchanges, only BTC and ETH can likely continue to rise, while altcoins...
